What would you like people to know about the zines you create?
My zines usually come from doodles I make people-watching or thinking through an experience/idea that I want to share! I can be kind of shy, so being Donut helps me be my honest, fat, disgusting, self-hating/loving, empathetic, and silly self. Doesn’t everybody feel that way eating doughnuts? : )

What would you like people to know about the zines you create?
most of my zines come from a place of processing and unlearning pain. they are meant to be comforting and offer new landscapes for their readers (and myself) to escape to.

What would you like people to know about the zines you create?
I enjoy writing the Suicidal Goldfish fiction zine series, because every issue makes the reader feel like part of Violet’s inner circle of friends.

This story is genuinely not a typical teenage love story, because the thread that strings everyone together is the sudden death of Léon the Suicidal Goldfish. I also, write poetry zines that are more personal and they are part of my everyday journal entries.

Why you are looking forward to tabling at L.A. Zine Fest 2017?
I enjoy meeting new zinesters and being inspired by the whole experience of what L.A. Zine Fest is. It is alway so fun to meet the zinesters that I follow on Instagram.

Who are three zinesters whose work inspires you?
I enjoy Yumi Sakugama’s zines they are so beautifully illustrated and her writing just touches my heart. Tuesday Bassen and Helen Jo their work is so cool.

What would you like people to know about the zines you create?
The zines I create come from personal experiences of being a weirdo Central American person and my personal mission to affirm our presence and beauty through illustration and comics.

What would you like people to know about the zines you create?

Barf N’ Friends is made up of LA Zinesters: Auberi Zwickel, Cristina Ramirez, Cass Monster, and Camille Kolo. Since there are so many of us, our zines really come together in their weirdness.

Whether our work is playful, intricate, word-heavy, or beautiful, it’ll probably make you squirm a little. We’re all ready and willing to put the work in so the world can have more barf stories, or a really detailed book of bugs going about their business! Stop by Barf N’ Friends if you want a little taste of everything, though it may gross you out !

Why you are looking forward to tabling at L.A. Zine Fest 2017?

We’re looking forward to tabling at L.A. Zine Fest this year because we’ve been dying all year to see what other exhibitors have been working on. As much as we love curating a table and selling stuff, the joy of the fest is really in walking around, shaking hands, and gulping in new work.

Who are three zinesters whose work inspires you?
Wow, we are really inspired by the tireless fun that is Suicidal Goldfish! Suemi Guerra pumps out really cool stuff for every fest. It’s exciting to watch!
We also really love Trabajo Press. Felipe Flores knows how to make hard hitting but crowd pleasing zines (which we all aspire to do)!
Last but not least, we’re especially psyched to see what Taleen Kali is gonna bring to the table. We really appreciate Taleen’s calm energy and her endless zine knowledge!!

Why you are looking forward to tabling at L.A. Zine Fest 2017?
L.A. Zine Fest brought me back to life! I always feel inspired when I see what others are doing, and I’ve made some fantastic friends.

I’m looking forward to seeing them & meeting new people. It’s corny, but if my zines bring some magic and joy to one person, I’ve done my job. Being able to make something out of my photographs has been so satisfying.

It’s so important, especially in this too fast, hyper visual time via social media. You can take your time with zines, hold them in your hand, connect with the paper like you can with an old book.

Who are three zinesters whose work inspires you?
Mari Naomi – I have her graphic novel Kiss & Tell and I love that she writes from the heart, with such honesty. It’s really touching, plus her illustrations can convey so much with very little text. Beautiful work.

I wish Daisy Noemi would make more photo zines. Her work is so dream-like and soft. She also uses film and that makes my heart happy.

My faraway friend, Michael Morrill makes zines all the time and I love his style. He made a zine called German Cars, which is exactly that – straight shots of parked cars in Germany, all shot on film. I admire people with old school aesthetics and a sense of humor.
