Who: Elise Bernal
What would you like people to know about your zines?
My hope with my zines is to share things i’ve learned from others and through personal experiences to remind people of their power, and that they are not alone! I believe that one of our greatest resources is the stories and experiences we share, and i hope that my zines share that in some form. (:
Tell us about a zine maker or zine that has had an impact on you.
This is a hard question! so many zinesters and zines inspire me! I’ll list a few that I’ve been returning to a lot this year “Things my friends say” by Brianna Meli (a zine with exactly what the title says, from one of the coolest humyns i know), “A soft electricity” by Stacy Russo (a beautiful poetry zine from a beautiful humyn), “Where it all goes” by Mutedtalks (a zine about loss), “Directions” by Jillian Sandell (a zine with things people said to the artist during cancer treatment), “korean spa” by baeconbits (a tiny zine about body positivity), also everything Subtle Ceiling, SundaySchoolKid, and Eileen chavez!! ++++ plus so many more (i could go on forever)!!!!!!
What are you looking forward to at L.A. Zine Fest 2019?
I’m looking forward to reconnecting with zine friends! the community has brought so much support and joy over the years! I’m also really excited to meet new people and discover more, beautiful makers!!!
