Who: Hate Paste
Describe what your zines are about in two sentences or fewer.
Funny, sad, and (hopefully) genuine drawings on paper.
What would you like people to know about the zines you create?
Mostly I make illustration and comics zines. I feel a pretty strong connection to narratives about loss, longing, coming-of-age, and the ways in which people fail themselves and each other. People have described my stuff as sad and funny but it means the most to me when someone says it feels genuine.
What’s the last zine you read that you really enjoyed?
I read a zine called “missing YOU: what is the void” by Wendy Valdez of Venus Gurls that I liked a lot. The way images and words combined to explore mental disorder and displacement felt personal and real in a way that really captured what I like about zines and things people make in general.
