WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE PEOPLE TO KNOW ABOUT THE ZINES YOU CREATE AND/OR WHY YOU ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO TABLING AT L.A. ZINE FEST 2016?: As collaborators, we just want to offer a unique perspective as LA bred/based artist (both of us coincidentally being filipino-american, went to an art high school, then studied illustration in college) Nikko builds worlds drawing influence from various aspects of pop culture, both retro and modern. His work is surreal, regularly depicting anthropomorphic characters interacting with one another in both fantastical & domestic environments. Jeromy’s most recent works reflect his explorations of the vastly diverse contexts found in the LGBTQ community. His take on characters & scenes is vivid yet nuanced, and is paired with aspects from his youth spent building forts in the backwoods of LA. With a strong influence from Saturday morning cartoons & anime, the resulting work is playful, abject, and psychedelic.
Get to Know Your Zinester features collages of the 2016 Fest exhibitors.
