Get To Know Your Zinester: The Radvocate

Radvocate Zine
Radvocate Zine
Describe your zine style. What can we expect to find at your table?
The Radvocate is a submission-based zine that features artwork, writing, poetry, and reviews. We don’t really have themes or a fixed style, beyond getting the work of artists and writers who are not published in “mainstream” publications, out into the public consciousness.

Where do you work on your zines?
The floor of my apartment and the UPS store.

What are your three favorite small-press/DIY publications?
Brainscan zine, Sioux Magazine, & Haitian Mag.

What advice would you give to a first-time zinester or to an aspiring zinemaker?
Get ready to put in a lot of hours for little or no initial result. Be a sponge; learn about everything in publishing, zines and writing that you possibly can, even if it seems irrelevant at the time. You will have to do a lot of work yourself, but don’t be too afraid or stubborn to ask for help. But if you are passionate about your subject, these setbacks won’t matter and you will have a lot of fun in the process!

What’s the best thing that ever happened to you because of zines?
Meeting and becoming a part of my local writing/performing arts community thanks to the zine workshop that I attended!
