What was your first zine about and when was it made?
In 2010, I started making daily diary comics posted online at OMGcow.com. It began when I moved to L.A. and went back to school. I was lonely and didn’t have friends or a life; so I kept a diary which evolved into the comic. I wasn’t much of an artist when I began; so the first year chronicles my maturity in style and technique, as well as (hopefully) in self.
At the end of the year, I collected it into a printed volume titled OMGcow 1. The comic is still on-going in it’s second year at OMGcow.com
Describe your most recent zine.
That would be Writerman. A 16-page mini comic about a really talented writer, who just keeps getting told he’s doing it wrong because he’s not dark and broody enough. Also, he grows a beard.
Name three of your influences and how they affected your work.
My first introduction to diary comics was Harvey Pekar. Amidst the superhero comics I read, Pekar’s stood out as being real stories about real people.
Lucy Knisley constantly inspires me. She is incredibly open about sharing herself through her work, connecting on a personal level with readers.
Lastly, I am absolutely obsessed with Salvador Dali. His passion, drive and prolific output inspires to get off my lazy ass and draw everyday.
