What was your first zine about and when was it made?
I made my first zine is about a time travel tunnel vortex that one of my characters Dez walks through on his way from his house to the store. It makes him age 5 years per minute and by the time he gets to the store he is 400 years old. Dez is confronted by David Bowie in the milk section and David tells Dez about the vortex he went through. Dez runs home and passes back through the time travel vortex to his house and has some cereal with milk from the future. I made this zine in like 2008. It was call Dez Hunger…cause the idea was sparked by the movie The Hunger.
Describe your most recent zine.
My most recent zine is The Swamp Hand of Doom. The swamp hand has a mind of its own. It is sometimes attached to a monster’s body. It does a lot of unexpected things. The hand speaks more visually than verbally.
Of all the things you’ve ever made, zine-related or otherwise, what’s your one favorite?
An art installation I call “Telepathic Treats” Its a “cat” that receives telepathic messages and turns them into cigarettes with messages on them that people can take out and read as their fortune.
Name three of your influences and how they affected your work.
PachooShnu, my cacti: I don’t really know why but it is usually around when I am making things. Prisms: looking through them helps me focus. Music: helps me create art, i hear a lot of sounds when i draw, so they have to go somewhere.
What do you do when you’re not creating and how does it help or harm what you do artistically?
Lots of daydreaming, adventures, filing up water balloons and throwing them into the street, making a sandwich… All these things are pretty helpful. I like to think that even when I am not creating, I am still creating something. Life = Art!
